This is for those who say, "I'd stay at the Ritz-Carlton if only it were even nicer and had even better service." Voilà! Originally conceived as a boutique hotel attached to the Ritz, it now operates as the Ritz's Club Level, but with, get this, 24-hour butler service. Yes, ring a special button, "ask for the sun" (they say themselves), and your own personal Jeeves will fetch it for you.
Largely untouched by Katrina, the rooms here are gorgeous little classics of NOLA style: wood floors, paneling, and furniture; superb moldings; fireplace facades; and bathrooms containing about the deepest hotel tub we've seen, a separate shower (though rooms whose numbers end with 05s have smaller bathrooms, with tub/shower combinations), quality amenities, and thick bath sheets. You get both local aesthetics and modern comforts, though window size can vary. Beds are so ultralush, with feather beds, down comforters with soft covers, and a half canopy, that we had to be dragged out of ours in the morning. All of this doesn't come cheap. However, because there are also five food servings a day (enough so that you need not eat anywhere else, though that would be a mistake in New Orleans!), and drinks are free, a case can be made that there is a certain economy to staying here, depending on the extent to which you take advantage of these inclusions. Summertime can bring incredible specials as well. Note: If you still have more money to burn, the sole suite, room no. 795, can't be beat for sheer size, beauty, and comfort.
