Frommer's Review
Don't you want to stay in an archetypal big, white Southern mansion? With a large veranda, perfect for settin' a spell? Sure you do! This hilarious and alluring B&B features huge public rooms splashed with plaster curlicues and Victorian furniture, while the theatrical guest rooms are the owner's imagination run amok. With the exception of the appropriately named Napoleon's Retreat, downstairs rooms are bigger, with 15-foot ceilings and elaborately explored decor. The black, blood red, and green Vampire's Lair is your Gothic fantasy, while the front bridal room is the largest. Upstairs rooms are smaller and not quite as over-the-top, but are similar bon-bons of delight, with their own murals (such as the Storyville room or the Princess room, featuring one Cinderella and her coach), and many have extra twin beds. Meanwhile, the owner has stories to tell about the vandalism her place experienced in the dark days immediately following Katrina, not to mention about the history of the house prior, which included its stint as Red Cross headquarters during World War I. The cleanup job she has done is remarkable.
