William S. Wetmore was yet another merchant who made his fortune in the China trade. The entrance to this "Castle by the Sea" is on the left side of Bellevue, driving south. High Victorian in style, which means it drew from many inspirations (including Italian Renaissance and French Second Empire), the Chateau features a central atrium that reaches up three levels to a stained-glass skylight, with balconies at every level. One of Wetmore's parties attracted 3,000 guests. A park designed in a style true to the period of the cottage has copper beech and weeping willow trees standing around its garden pavilion.
