Here's one of the friendliest little minihotels in town. Tucked down a quiet(ish) lane just south of the backpacker area, bright and colorful La Suisse Hotel offers new, clean, and cozy rooms with air-conditioning and satellite TV. Decor includes snazzy checked bedspreads and large headboards. Bathrooms are the guesthouse variety but have decorator tile. More-high-end rooms have large black faux-granite sink stands. There's nothing Swiss about the place except a hokey painting in the lobby of mountain-climbing, horn-blowing Swiss in lederhosen. Upper-floor suites have large curved balconies, and one has a raised wooden platform with a funky shag rug. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, with genuine sentiment despite an inability to communicate. They can book tours, too.
