Introduction to North-Central Vietnam

Most travelers fly over this region between Hue and Hanoi (or take the overnight train), and towns like Vinh are rarely visited by Westerners (though admirers of Ho Chi Minh go to his birthplace like Elvis fans flock to Graceland). North-Central Vietnam does have some treasures, especially the sights in and around Ninh Binh -- a popular place for a day trip or overnight from Hanoi.
