The Chinook Café opened in 1998 in Conway (a 10-min. drive south of North Conway) as a small, mostly takeout place, but its popularity led it to move down the street and expand. You'll find healthy fare for breakfast and lunch, with a good selection of vegetarian items. The chicken wraps are delicious (try Thai style with peanut sauce), the smoothies nicely sippable while driving, and the homemade baked goods a fitting conclusion to a hike. The more upscale dinners, served with fresh-baked bread and the "daily grain," could include baked salmon filet, lamb tenderloin, maple-smoked duck breast, or seared sea scallops with braised leeks and toasted pecans.
