Dartbrook Lodge

Visitors who are fond of the Great Camp style -- but don't want to fork over bundles of dough to get it -- need look no further than this surprising Keene gem, opened in 2006 by the owners of Dartbrook Rustic Goods, right next door. (Traveling along Rte. 73, you can't miss the beautiful gnarled-twig porch of the main lodge.) It's particularly good for hikers, as several trail heads are located right in Keene Valley. The property consists of seven individual cabins and suites, all with cathedral ceilings and private porches. While cabins are not far from the road, they feel secluded and quiet once you step inside. Bright, airy, and comfortable, each one boasts colorful rugs, gas fireplace, flatscreen TV, slate rainfall shower, and, of course, Adirondack-style furnishings hand-hewn by talented local artisans. The Cedar Run restaurant at the lodge serves fresh baked goods, along with a delicious breakfast and lunch.
