Silver Sands Review

Set back a ways from the road, this motel stretches over a quarter-mile of private beach, which is the reason to stay here. Motel rooms have microwaves and fridges, but are otherwise pretty simple, with linoleum floors and dated furniture. Family-run for over 50 years, the Silver Sands has expanded steadily, acquiring neighboring properties as they were vacated, so no two of the cottages are alike, though furnishings are in the same vein as the motel. The affable, down-to-earth owners have a webcam set up to view a nearby osprey's nest, and they've also been quietly building a reputation for harvesting some of the finest oysters around, right out of the bay here.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
