En Route to the Beach -- It used to be almost impossible to get beach-bound traffic on Ore. 18 to stop for anything, but that was before the Spirit Mountain Casino, 27100 SW Salmon River Hwy. (tel. 800/760-7977; www.spiritmountain.com), opened in the town of Grand Ronde and became the most popular casino in Oregon. These days a lot of the traffic on this highway isn't even going to the beach; it's headed straight to this large, glitzy temple of luck.
