Located just off Ore. 99W in a restored Victorian home in downtown Newberg, this dinner house is the latest high-end restaurant to take root in wine country. With credentials that include study at the Culinary Institute of America, chef/owner Allen Routt brings sophistication and creativity to a town that has long thought of Chinese and Mexican as exotic foods. The menu is strictly prix fixe, and the three-course dinner ($39) offers plenty of choices. The menu changes with the seasons, but a recent night featured roasted-red-pepper soup with crab and horseradish cream; halibut with corn and chanterelle-mushroom fricassee; stuffed pheasant breast with wild-mushroom risotto; and rice pudding with pinot-noir-soaked currants. If you'd rather trust the decision making to the chef, opt for the seven-course grand tasting menu ($55).
