Frommer's Review
Jimbo's is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant -- it's small, with a line of regulars outside, serves fantastic house-made noodles and broths, and everything is good and affordable. A must for any noodle lover, Jimbo's serves homemade udon in a flawless broth with a subtly smoky flavor, then tops it with shrimp tempura, chicken, eggs, vegetables, seaweed, roasted mochi (Japanese rice bun), and other accompaniments of your choice. Cold noodles (the Tanuki salad is wonderful!), stir-fried noodles, donburi (rice dishes with assorted toppings), and combination dinners are other delights. The earthenware pot of noodles, with shiitake mushrooms, vegetables, and udon, plus a platter of tempura on the side, is a top-of-the-line meal. But my favorite is the nabeyaki (a clay pot of udon with tempura on top). Owner Jimbo Motojima, a perfectionist, uses only the finest ingredients from Japan.
