Frommer's Review
Three blocks, or about a 10- to 15-minute walk, from Waikiki Beach lies this 1960s apartment hotel, run since 1964 by the Chun family. Overlooking the Ala Wai Canal, the six-story building can be noisy, but air-conditioning drowns out the street noise and the location is within walking distance of Waikiki attractions, dining, and shopping. The 315-square-foot studios are composed of an immaculately clean bedroom/living room combo, with a bed on one side and a full kitchen across the room. The one-bedroom units are larger and have separate bedrooms (great for families). Some of the rooms have been upgraded, thus the range in prices. Tip: If you're on a budget, ask for the "Manager's Special Rates" at $79 for a studio or $89 for a one-bedroom (not deluxe upgraded units, but still clean and very functional). The hotel has also added a spa with massage services and a "floating salon," a chamber that looks like a hot tub with a lid on it; you lie in it, in the dark, in warm water.
Facilities:
Spa; coin-op washer/dryers

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
