In the hot lowlands of eastern Oaxaca, an area called the isthmus, a different kind of cooking is practiced, and you can sample some of the region's specialties at this restaurant located in a residential part of the Colonia Reforma, which is north of the Centro Histórico. Start off with some garnachas for appetizers -- little corn patties covered in sauce -- and then try one of the regional specialties like shrimp mole or another kind of mole called gucheguiña. Seafood is a big part of isthmus cooking, and the menu offers seafood cocktails and soups.
