Built in 1971 and reconstructed in 1987, this is our favorite government-rated four-star hotel in Obergurgl. Located a few hundred yards above the village, this attractive eight-story hotel prides itself on the fact that guests can ski down from the hotel to the lifts in the morning and ski directly to the hotel's front door after a day on the slopes. The interior has carefully crafted wooden walls and ceilings, a ceramic stove surrounded by a warming bench, and a well-rated restaurant with panoramic views over the countryside. The cozy rooms, in a variety of sizes, are rustic but sport modern bathrooms with tub/shower combinations and excellent beds. Many open onto private balconies.
