Viewpoint Inn ReviewWith its dark wood-paneled walls, large stone fireplace, and wood fire crackling on the hearth, this restaurant has a classic elegance rare in Oregon. The view from the Viewpoint is clearly Oregon, but the gabled roof and French doors enclosing the dining room lend the restaurant the feel of an old New England inn. Meals, including the popular Sunday brunch, are formal affairs. The menu changes seasonally, but you might start with a creamy sweet onion and saffron soup before moving on to a wild-mushroom lasagna or a perfectly cooked filet mignon with potato pancakes or a hazelnut-encrusted lamb rack. Sunsets can be spectacular, but in summer can be quite late. There is no better place to start or end a tour of the Columbia River Gorge. Twilight fans will recognize the inn from the teen vampire movie. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
