Review of Suntory MuseumThe Suntory Museum, which you can tour in about 30 minutes, is that fantastically modern-looking structure you see near the aquarium, designed by well-known architect Tadao Ando. It stages changing exhibitions in airy rooms against a dramatic background of the sea beyond its glass walls. Past exhibits have included posters by Toulouse-Lautrec, paintings by German expressionists, and glass by Emile Gallé. There's also a 3-D IMAX theater with scenes so real you'll think you are part of the film, a good museum shop, the Sky Lounge (perfect for taking a break), and a restaurant, Café Solare. Mutineers Need Not Apply -- The quickest and most scenic way to travel between Suntory Museum/aquarium and Universal Studios is via the Captain Line shuttle boat (tel. 06/6573-8222) with its all-female crew, which departs every 30 minutes and charges ¥600 for the 10-minute ride. A bonus: The boat ticket includes a ¥300 discount for the aquarium. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
