More than just a place to dine, this sushi shop, in operation for more than 180 years, is part of the Osaka experience. Back in the old days, sushi shops were strictly takeout operations, with customers bringing in their own dishes, making their orders, and then returning home to wait for geta-clad deliverers. Nowadays you eat your sushi here; best are the counter seats, where you can watch sushi being pressed in wooden molds, Osaka style. A Japanese-language menu with photos, a display case at the entryway, and a friendly staff can help with ordering. Or, if you just want to try oshi-zushi (Osakan sushi), order the hakozushi, which comes with six pieces for ¥590. Tokyo-style nigiri and maki-sushi are also available.
