Imperial Hotel Osaka (Teikoku Hotel) Review

One of Osaka's top luxury hotels, the Imperial is situated north of Osaka Castle on the cherry tree-lined Okawa River in a relaxing, resortlike setting, next to a large office complex containing shops and restaurants. It provides free shuttle ride service to Osaka Station and complimentary bikes to explore the area (it's a 10-min. ride to Osaka Castle). Like its Tokyo namesake, its bold interior designs show the same Frank Lloyd Wright inspirations, including an Old Imperial Bar that pays homage to the American architect. The hotel's fitness center is the largest and best equipped in the city, while restaurants take advantage of the river and city views. The high-ceilinged, spacious rooms offer large windows with remote-control drapes and great views (request rooms facing the river), good working desks, down pillows and comforters, fluffy bathrobes, aromatherapy amenities, and marble bathrooms with magnifying mirrors and vanity stools at sinks.

Facilities: 6 restaurants; bar; 2 lounges; bikes (free for hotel guests); children's day-care center (from ¥1,323 per 30 min.); concierge; executive-level rooms; golf driving range (fee: ¥5,250); Osaka's largest state-of-the-art health club w/3 lit outdoor tennis courts, 25m (82-ft.) indoor pool, spa, Jacuzzi, and sauna (fee: ¥2,100 morning, ¥5,250 afternoon); medical clinic; room service; smoke-free rooms

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
