The Mounties are one of the most recognizable symbols of Canada throughout the world, and the police force's Musical Ride -- which features mounted riders on highly trained horses -- is its highest-profile public element. Free tours of the training school and stables of the RCMP Musical Ride are available year-round. In the summer months, you'll find greater numbers of visitors and more frequent tour schedules. In the winter, it's advisable to call ahead and set up a time with the coordinator, although it's not essential. If you happen to visit on a day when the riders aren't practicing, or if the ride is away on tour across Canada (which happens often during the summer -- check the Musical Ride website for an updated tour schedule), try to get tickets to one of their shows.
