Getting There
By Bus & Grand Taxi -- Buses and grands taxis operate from a small parking lot in the middle of the village, on the main El Jadida-Safi road. CTM buses operate from their own office, just 80m (260 ft.) farther south. Both CTM and other bus companies, as well as grands taxis, depart throughout the day for Oualidia from Safi (1-1 1/2 hr.; 20dh-30dh/$2.50-$3.75/£1.25-£1.90), and there are at least three departures per day from El Jadida (1 1/4-1 3/4 hr.; 25dh-30dh/$3.15-$3.75/£1.55-£1.90).
Village Layout
The "commercial" center of the village straddles either side of the El Jadida-Safi road, sitting above the lagoon and beach down below. Along this 200m (655-ft.) stretch are the bank, Internet cafes, pharmacies, a covered market, and the stop for both buses and grands taxis. Opposite the covered market -- the busiest section of the road -- is the road winding down 1km (2/3 mile) to the lagoon and beach; down here is where the village's best hotel-restaurants are located.
Fast Facts
All the following are located on the El Jadida-Safi road running through the village. Banque Populaire, with a bureau de change and an ATM, is opposite the grand taxi park. It's open Monday to Friday 8:15am to 3:45pm. There are three pharmacies: Pharmacie La Mosque (tel. 023/356477), Pharmacie Oualidia (tel. 023/366494), and Pharmacie La Lagune (tel. 024/366255), all open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm, 2:30 to 7:30pm, and 8 to 11pm. They then operate on a roster system after hours and on weekends. For Internet access, try Cyber Club Oualidia, at the southern end of the road, and Cyber La Lagune, at the northern end near the covered market; both are open daily from 9am to midnight.
