Attractions

There's only one reason to come to Oualidia, and that's to enjoy the sun and sand from the sheltered lagoon, or the long, open beach a short walk away. As mentioned, they can both get busy during the holidays, but walk a little past the open beach, and you'll find endless stretches of unoccupied sand; just be wary of the strong undercurrent if you go swimming. Surfland (tel. 0523/366110; surfland@menara.ma) operates a surf school from their base, located halfway between the village and the lagoon, with weeklong camps for kids and beginners of all ages. Oualidia Maroc Aventure (tel. 0661/157743) is at the southern entrance to the village, on the main El Jadida-Safi road. They hire out mountain bikes (100dh per half-day) and watersports equipment such as kayaks and canoes. During the holiday season, a few temporary operators set themselves up between the lagoon and the Atlantic beach, hiring out quad bikes and jet skis. The Oualidia Tennis Club (tel. 0523/366262) has two well-kept clay courts, available for hire to nonmembers via a temporary social membership, which costs 100dh. If you're feeling a little sore and tired after a day of fun in, and on, the water, La Sultana Oualidia offers a vast choice of massage and beauty treatments from their in-house hammam and spa.
