Getting There -- You must go to Salerno to get to Paestum via public transit. Take a southbound train, which departs Salerno with a stop at Paestum about every 2 hours. For schedules, call tel. 892021 toll-free in Italy. A one-way fare is 3€ ($3.90/£2), and the journey takes 30 minutes. The bus from Salerno leaves from Piazza Concordia (near the rail station) about every 30 minutes. Call tel. 089-252228 for information. A one-way fare is 3€ ($3.90/£2).

By car, from Salerno take S18 south.

Visitor Information -- The tourist office, Via Magna Grecia 887 (tel. 0828-811016; www.infopaestum.it), in the archaeological zone, is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm (until 7pm July-Aug) and Sunday from 9am to 1pm.
