Formerly the Riande Continental, this under-the-radar hotel recently underwent a massive renovation that has transformed it from an average business hotel to a spectacular high-design one. As soon as you hit the lobby, you enter a Phillipe Starck-like world of glitzy metallics, ambient lighting, multi-textured surfaces, and strikingly colored Victorian armchairs. The decorators didn't shy away from pushing boundaries in the rooms, either, adding a zebra-print chair or splashy art above the bed, with design that varies from room to room. Outside, there's an inviting pool fringed by palms. The building itself blocks out much of the sun, although the huge terrace, also used for special events, isn't as shaded. Restaurant Solo, entered through an archway made of two giant faces, goes well beyond typical hotel fare, serving Panamanian fusion dishes that can compete with some of the city's top restaurants. Unbelievable online price breaks make this one of the best value hotels in the city.
