Frommer's Review
A small museum housed in the 1910-era Iglesia de la Misión Cristiana, the Museo Afroantillano (Afro-Antillian Museum) pays tribute to the more than 30,000 West Indians who represented 85% of all foreign laborers during the building of the canal. Afro-Antillians were relegated to the most menial and treacherous of all work, and many lost their lives in the process. Within the museum are reconstructed examples of their poor living quarters, and there are old photos and other antiques from the early 1900s. It takes about 20 minutes to see everything; which is good because the neighborhood here is awfully sketchy, and doesn't induce you to linger or wander around. Take a cab directly to and from here.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
