Giving Las Tinajas a run for its money, the new Al Tambor de la Alegría (Drum of Happiness) also offers a 1-hour folkloric dance presentation and good traditional cuisine. Indigenous Panamanians and women in traditional polleras provide a razzle-dazzle show that spans the history of the country, from the arrival of the Spanish to the construction of the canal. The menu features dishes named after the different regions of Panama, such as the Volcán Barú (a sample platter with carimiñolas, tortillas, and other local delicacies), a Best of Boquete salad with fresh tomatoes and onions, and the Coiba Island octopus, among other themed dishes with seafood and meats. The show is an additional $10, without a minimum consumption, and takes place at 9pm Monday through Saturday.
