Frommer's Review
Though I normally find the Marriott chain overpriced for what you get, The Panama Marriott is the overall best grand hotel in the city. First, it's within walking distance of top restaurants and Internet cafes, and taxi drivers always know where it is. (This is saying something in a city without many street names.) Their high-tech fitness center is enormous, and the spa is extensive and reasonably priced. There are amenities galore, including Copa Air, Hertz, and travel-agency desks, and the staff provides courteous, helpful service. The handsome, oversize lobby is generously appointed with huge bouquets of fresh flowers, and an ample, comfortable lounge is the perfect spot for reading the paper, holding an informal meeting, or ordering a snack from the bar or the grab-and-go cafe. The guest rooms are spacious and attractive; standard doubles have a couch and large bathroom. Executive rooms are higher up and nearly identical to standard rooms, but come with upgraded amenities such as a private lounge on the 19th floor with a dynamite view. The Marriott also has a casino, opened in 2005, for a little gaming action and disco nightlife, but one big word of caution: Rooms that end in even numbers suffer from the pounding of DJ music and partying on weekends.
Facilities: Restaurant; deli; sports bar; casino; outdoor pool; spa and 24-hr. fitness center w/whirlpool, steam room, and sauna; concierge; Hertz and Copa Air desks; travel agency; business center; cellphone rental; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; laundry and dry-cleaning service.
