Frommer's Review
The Continental caters predominately to Panamanians and other Latin American travelers. Located on busy Vía España, and convenient for shops and dining, the Riande has been well maintained since its opening in 1972, and the premises are spotless. The hotel rises high around a small, tropical-style outdoor pool fringed by lounge chairs. Rooms are spacious, but with run-of-the-mill decor on par with that of midrange American chain hotels. Rooms have small balconies, but access is blocked, management says, to avoid accidents. When booking, ask for a room in the back to escape late-night traffic noise from Vía España. One caveat about the hotel: The air-conditioning system is centrally controlled and therefore impossible to adjust; it's also a little loud. The Riande has a casino and a full list of amenities found at five-star hotels; however, this hotel is firmly within the four-star category. Book online for savings of as much as 50% off the rack rate.
