Frommer's Review
Opened in 2005, this gala hotel and casino is for travelers seeking a little more razzle-dazzle in their stay. There are a lot of amenities on offer here for the price, which makes it a value if you're looking for a hotel with several on-site restaurants and built-in nightlife. The Veneto likens itself to a Las Vegas-style hotel/casino, and from the garish exterior it's easy to see why -- but step inside the wide, low-slung lobby and enter a hotel with a lot of style. During the day, their elegant casino on the mezzanine level is hardly noticeable unless you head up the escalator and pay a visit; but at night, the music pumps and the lobby takes on a very festive atmosphere. Strangely, the rooms here are all business, with conservative furniture and cool tones of blue; the beds are ultra-comfortable with crisp linens, duvets, and orthopedic beds, and there are luxurious marble-inlaid bathrooms. The Veneto bills itself as a five-star hotel, but everywhere there are slight defects -- some hardly noticeable, others hard to miss. During my stay, there was a foul odor in the hallway, but this wasn't the case on every floor. The bathroom has poor lighting, and there's no cable TV. During conventions, you must walk partially through the convention to get to the outdoor pool and gym. On the other hand, the pool here hints at resort glamour, and their spa is one of the most complete in Panama, plus the service is courteous and accommodating. Top-floor rooms are executive suites with access to a private lounge. Some doubles are an odd rectangular shape and feel a little claustrophobic; they vary in size so you might ask to see more than one.
