This place is like a time warp back to the 1970s -- even the doorman is still dressed in a natty guayabera suit that looks like an original. The Executive was undoubtedly the hotel of choice for discerning travelers when it opened; but 35 years later, the rooms are a tad worn and the beds could stand to be replaced, even though on the whole the hotel has been well maintained. The best things about this spot are its location, in the heart of El Cangrejo; its 24-hour coffee shop, which is great for travelers arriving at odd hours; and some pretty stunning views from the tiny balconies attached to the rooms. (Incidentally, the fifth floor and above are definitely not for those who suffer from vertigo.) Guest rooms are spaced out motel-like in that they are joined by an outdoor walkway. There are a tiny gym with a big view, an outdoor pool at street level that is unfortunately shaded most of the day, and air-conditioning that could use a little more oomph. Service is very friendly here.
