Hotel Milan ReviewThis is a no-frills hotel, but it's relatively new and everything is fresh and works properly. For the price, you'd have a hard time finding a better deal when looking for a downtown hotel close to restaurants and shops. Rooms are plain, but the frilly bedspreads and aqua-blue guest-room walls add a touch of character. The "suite" is a large double with a minifridge and whirlpool bath (situated incongruously in a room behind a small bar), and not worth the extra cash. The lighting in guest rooms is awfully dim, so order a proper nightstand lamp from the front desk. Economy doubles are slightly smaller versions of doubles. The hotel is safe, clean, and a good lodging option if you're just looking for a place to sleep and ambience isn't high on your list of priorities. A 55-room expansion is planned for the end of 2009, a result of the hotel's popularity. There is usually a 25% to 50% discount going on, so be sure to ask. Service is a bit lack-luster and slow. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
