Frommer's Review
Travelers with an eye for style and a thin wallet will find this bed-and-breakfast to be an outstanding value. Located on the forested slope of Cerro Ancón, in a renovated 1960s Canal Zone home, La Estancia is a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of Panama City. The B&B has spotless, bright accommodations and personalized service that includes an on-site, reputable travel agency. There's nothing within walking distance, except the winding road up to the top of the hill (a real plus for those who enjoy a morning walk capped off with a commanding view of the city), so you'll need a cab for sightseeing or dining out. Doubles are either en suite, or have a bathroom just outside the door. (Choose the latter -- the bathroom is for your use only, and these rooms have terraces.) The two suites are enormous, and have sleek kitchens and long outdoor terraces. They are one of Panama City's best options for long-term visitors and families. The intimacy of La Estancia encourages socializing among guests -- those seeking absolute privacy will be happiest in a suite or a second-floor room, which has its own common area.
