Frommer's Review
Towering 25 floors over the shore of Panama City, the Intercontinental has a breathtaking five-star view. But other components of the hotel's five-star rating could use some spit and polish -- there are frequent complaints about lackluster service and inconsistency in maintenance of guest rooms. All in all, it is an elegant hotel with full amenities, and it's popular with executives, especially conventioneers who travel in groups. (Because of this it seems like a constant battle to get up and down one of the two elevators.) The Intercontinental is also popular with VIPs who travel frequently to Panama City. Standard guest rooms are spacious and have king-size beds and sofas, but the best accommodations here are on one of the five Club Floors because of their exclusive access to a glitzy rooftop pool and plush executive lounge. The shore-level deluxe outdoor pool receives high marks, especially from kids, and the state-of-the-art gym is one of the few in the area to offer yoga classes. The lobby, however, is simply too tiny for a hotel of this caliber.
