Frommer's Review
This hair-curler-shaped hotel is located in the high-rise residential community of Punta Paitilla -- yet it is still only blocks from a few convenience shops and the Multicentro Mall. The best feature of the Plaza Paitilla is its striking view from floor-to-ceiling windows in each guest room. (Book a room with a city or ocean view; otherwise you'll look out onto a neighboring condo.) The staff claims that the hotel, built in the 1970s and another former Holiday Inn, is steadily maintained, but really it's hard to tell if this is true because many of the rooms have furniture that looks to have been scavenged or bought at a discount outlet sale. The staff is friendly enough but is not trained to provide top-notch service. The beds are firm and comfortable, and there is a nice swimming pool fronting the bay, though like the hotel as a whole, it is a little worn on the edges. But, hey, at $50 a night, who can complain?
