Review of Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de ParisParis's Modern Art Museum borders the Seine and is in fact housed in the Eastern Wing of the monumental Palais de Tokyo, a building designed for the 1937 World Fair. The museum opened in 1961, and it is home to works of modern art, including Henri Matisse's "The Dance," Pierre Bonnard's "Nude in the Bath" and "The Garden," and Fernand Léger's "Discs." There are also works by Chagall, Rothko, Braque, Dufy, Picasso, Utrillo, and Modigliani. Seek out Pierre Tal Coat's Portrait of Gertrude Stein, and keep Picasso's version of this difficult subject in mind. The museum also presents excellent ever-changing exhibits on individual artists from all over the world or on contemporary international trends. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
