This is one of the last old-fashioned bistros in the heart of Paris. Few other restaurants allow such a close-up and forbidding view of the massive walls of Paris's largest cathedral; it's visible through lacy curtains from the windows of the front dining room. To reach it, you'll bypass a dozen souvenir stands and then settle into one of the two old-time dining rooms. The cuisine, which is a bit heavy, evokes the French staples you're served along little back roads deep in the heart of France. The specialty is boeuf bourguignon (beef simmered in red-wine sauce), and in winter, the menu features lots of game dishes. You can order snails with garlic butter; filet mignon with Roquefort sauce; and a classic dessert, tarte tatin (pie studded with apples and sugar, drenched with Calvados, and capped with fresh cream).
