Lasserre Review

This elegant restaurant was a bistro before World War II and has since become a legend. The main salon stretches two stories high, with a mezzanine on each side. Tall, silk-draped arched windows frame the tables set with fine porcelain, gold-edged crystal glasses, and silver candelabras. The ceiling is painted with white clouds and a cerulean sky, but in good weather, the staff slides back the roof to reveal the real sky. The faces of Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich have given way to young British royals and statuesque models from Brazil. Chef Christophe Moret, who previously worked under Ducasse at the Plaza Athenée, is a master of taste and texture, and he's brought renewed life to this swank citadel. Try the langoustines in a ginger-lime spiked seafood bouillon, truffled sea bass, young pigeon stuffed with truffles and served with turnips in lapsang-souchong tea, or the Brittany lobster with chestnut, salsify, and pumpkin. For dessert, try the roasted figs with olive oil and lime sorbet.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
