Small-scale and personal, this hotel, in the words of a recent critic, "combines modernist sympathies with nostalgia for la vieille France [old-fashioned France]." Built in the 1600s as a town house, it is a creative and intimate jumble of charm and coziness inside. Expect a mixture of antique and contemporary furniture; lots of books; and, in the bedrooms, trompe l'oeil ceilings, antique beams, quilts, and walls covered in fabric that comes in a rainbow of colors. The well-kept bathrooms come with tub/shower combinations.
