If you don't mind its offbeat 13th arrondissement location, this undiscovered hotel, with good rooms and decent prices, lying on a small street near place d'Italie, is a real find. It is only 10 minutes by Métro from the stations at Montparnasse and Gare de Lyon. Small to midsize bedrooms are decorated in printed fabrics and soothing pastels. The most desirable room is no. 74 because of its distant views of the Eiffel Tower. This restored 19th-century building has a wrought-iron door and is graced with iron lamps, wicker chairs, oak floors, and bright paintings. It contains a number of old-fashioned armoires called chapeau de gendarme (police hat).
