Planning a Trip

Getting There -- To bus from London, take the one daily National Express (tel. 0871/781-81-81; www.nationalexpress.co.uk) bus that leaves from London's Victoria Station at 11pm, arriving in Penrith at 5:30am.

To drive, take the M1 out of London, getting on the M6 to Penrith. The trip should take no more than 6 hours.

Visitor Information -- The Tourist Information Centre, Robinson's School, Middlegate, Penrith (tel. 01768/867466; www.visiteden.co.uk), is open in summer Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm; off-season hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
