Across the street from Mama Juana's is La Cocina de La Abuela, or "kitchen of the grandmother," which is open Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 9pm and offers 35¢ pupusas and grilled steak for $4.50 to $7.50. The best restaurant in the area, however, is 1.5km (1 mile) south of town in the Hotel de Montaña (Km 205.5 Carretera a Perquín, Morazán; tel. 503/2680-4046 or 503/2680-4080). The hotel restaurant has a large, English-language menu with tasty chicken, fish, and meat items from $5.80 to $8.80, including a delicious chicken dish with cheese and mushrooms, rice, and salad for $6. The restaurant also has outdoor seating with great views.
