Hotels

Most Perugian hotels are flexible about rates, which dive 40% to 50% below posted prices in the off season, so it always pays to ask. Reserve well in advance if you plan to visit during the booked-solid Umbria Jazz season.

Inexpensive -- Travelers watching their purse strings might want to forgo the more expensive choices listed for a quiet hotel in the medieval streets east of Corso Vannucci. The 75€ doubles at Hotel Umbria, Via Boncambi 37 (tel./fax 075-572-1203), are a considerable climb up to Corso Vannucci, but all 18 rooms have bathrooms and TVs at a very good price. Otherwise, the city's youth hostel, Ostello di Perugia (tel. 075-572-2880; www.ostello.perugia.it) has beds for 15€ at Via Bontempi 13.
