One of the more refined restaurants in town, candlelit La Taverna is removed from the hubbub (but still central; just follow the signs). Couples meet romantically and families celebrate special occasions under the brick barreled vaults, and wait for Claudio Brugalossi to recommend the best pick of the day. If they're available and you have an appetite, go for the caramelle rosse al gorgonzola, a 'zola-soaked plate of homemade ravioli filled with juicy beets. Follow that up with medaglioni alle punte di asparagi, which are cuts of filet, smothered in a creamy asparagus sauce and scalloped potatoes. Recently, Claudio has added limited outdoor seating. Call ahead for one of the tables.
