The Posta is in the heart of the action on Corso Vannucci, a few palaces down from the National Gallery and in the midst of the passeggiata. Although pricey, rather characterless, and not particularly friendly, it offers comfort as solid as the Brufani at a better rate. The Posta was the only hotel in Perugia when it opened in the late 1700s and has entertained Goethe, Frederick III of Prussia, and Hans Christian Andersen. The small breakfast room retains its frescoed ceiling, yet most of the property was redecorated in the early 1990s in mainly dark, muted colors; only a few canvases on corridor walls remain of the 18th-century decor. The sizable accommodations now include padded fabric-lined walls, matching Art Nouveau floral prints on the quilts and chair upholstery, and modern wood furniture.
