The Inn at Jaffrey Center

In the middle of one of New Hampshire's most gracious villages, this lovely, architecturally eclectic inn was built back around 1830. After years of turnover and decline, the inn got a much-needed makeover in 2000, when its rooms were updated in traditional New England style, some with four-poster or canopy beds. Rooms that formerly shared a bathroom all got their own, and fixtures such as old claw-foot tubs (in some rooms) were refurbished and reinstalled. Some rooms have TVs; all have goose-down comforters. The lawns are attractive, the local foliage is great, and downtown's churches and lanes are nearby.
