Hotels in Petersburg
There are lots of places with character to stay in Petersburg, more than we have room to describe in full. Besides those listed below, we also recommend Das Hagedorn Haus, right downtown at 400 2nd St. N. (www.dashagedornhouse.com; tel. 907/772-3775), where a wonderfully hospitable couple rents a full apartment in their historic home for $80 to $110 high season, including amenities such as Wi-Fi, free laundry machines, and a full breakfast cooked to order. They do not take credit cards.
Camping -- The closest natural camping is found 22 miles out the Mitkof Highway at Ohmer Creek. Twin Creek RV Park is 7 1/2 miles out the highway (www.twincreekrv.com; tel. 907/772-3244) and charges $28 for full hookups, $15 for tent camping. Showers are $3 extra.

Tides Inn
The management runs a tight ship here, and keeps the place in good shape. But what I like most about the Tides Inn (beyond the bargain prices) is it's location at the edge of the harbor. The harbor-side rooms give you a front-row seat on the comings and goings of the halibut fleet,…$$Downtown - B&B
Waterfront Bed & Breakfast
A convenient location and the waterfront views are the main reasons to pick Waterfront Bed & Breakfast. Waterfront is actually an understatement: this B&B sits on piling out over the water. It’s practically next door to the Alaksa Marine Highway System terminal, so if you…$Ferry dock area
