Frommer's Review
This nautical-chic resort was conceived by Hazen K. Richardson, who did everything from planting trees to laying cables on the 45-hectare (111-acre) property. It's the only place to stay on the island. Open to the trade winds, this self-contained cottage colony was designed by a Swedish architect, Arne Hasselquist, who used purpleheart wood and the local stone, blue bitch (yes, that's right), for the walls.
Some cottages are built on a hillside, with great views, and some are set conveniently close to the beach. Cottages open onto big outdoor patios and are cooled by trade winds and ceiling fans. Each of the spacious accommodations has an ample living area, two daybeds, a good-size bedroom with two queen-size beds, a shower-only bathroom, a dressing room, Caribbean-style wicker and rattan furnishings, and a large patio with a hammock for lying back and taking it easy. For payment, personal checks are accepted and preferred. When you need something (perhaps a picnic lunch made up for your day on the beach), you simply write out your request, place it in a slot in a bamboo flagpole, and run up the yellow flag. A staff member will arrive on a motorized cart to take your order.
This resort has a top-notch chef, and menus are changed daily. Although the food has to be shipped in, the fine U.S. and Continental dishes taste fresh and are very well prepared. The chefs are sensitive to special requests and special diets.
