Frommer's Review
Sure, it's a tourist trap, but this fake cow town, originally located in north Scottsdale, is so much fun and such a quintessentially Phoenician experience that no family should get out of town without first moseying down the dusty streets of Rawhide. Those streets are lined with lots of tourist shops and plenty of places for refreshments, including a steakhouse. Rawhide is run like other amusement parks in that you buy a bunch of $1 tickets and then trade various numbers of those tickets for performances (stunt shows, gunfights, trick-roping demonstrations) and activities and attractions (stagecoach, camel, and train rides; a mechanical bull; gold panning). There are also Saturday-night sundown cookouts ($45 adults, $19 children) with hayrides, live music, and storytellers. Throughout the year, lots of special events include rodeos.
