Fairmont Scottsdale Review

I know this faux Moorish palace belongs in Spain, not Arizona, but I still love it. With its royal palms, tiled fountains, and waterfalls, the Fairmont offers an exotic atmosphere that will delight anyone in search of a getaway that doesn't entail learning Spanish or spending euros. A water playground (with two water slides) and a kids' fishing pond also make this resort a hit with families. The resort, a 20-minute drive from Old Town Scottsdale, is home to the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament, which means the fairways here are top-notch. Guest rooms are done in contemporary Southwestern style, and bathrooms have double vanities and separate showers and tubs. All units have private balconies. For stepped-up amenities, opt for a room in the Gold wing. There's also the Willow Stream spa, and the resort offers an eco-education program that includes guided hikes.

Facilities:
4 restaurants; 4 lounges; babysitting; bikes; children's programs; concierge; executive-level rooms; two 18-hole golf courses; exercise room; 3 Jacuzzis; 5 pools; room service; full-service spa; 7 tennis courts

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
