Frommer's Review
Amanpuri has long been billed as the address of note for international celebrities; however, by today's standards of luxury and style, some may find it falling short considering the high prices it demands. The teak-filled rooms are certainly masterfully designed in a traditional Thai style, with teak and tile floors, sliding doors, and well-chosen antiques. But they are a tad small in the light of the oversized villas now on offer and can be musty in the rainy season; some may also find the ubiquitous concrete decor too stark. In addition, their location, scattered across extremely steep slopes, makes it a bit of a trek from the pool and difficult to negotiate in rain (when the steamy climb up steep steps to the hillside rooms can become hard work); there are golf carts to help. These things apart, the Aman style is still omnipresent: The spacious villas are sumptuously decorated and their private pools are all extremely elegant; private salas are perfect for romantic dining or secluded sunbathing. The Aman Spa offers six large spa suites, a grand herbal steam bath, and sauna. A third restaurant opened in December 2007, on the beach.
Facilities: 3 restaurants; pool; golf course nearby; outdoor lighted tennis courts; squash courts; fitness center; spa; watersports equipment; private yacht; library; airport transfer; limited room service; babysitting; same-day laundry service/dry cleaning; Wi-Fi and broadband.
