Long Beach -- Long Beach is where you'll find the island's best accommodations. The beach is getting busier with touts and sellers, but a friendly, laid-back atmosphere prevails. Ong Lang Beach is just to the north of Duong Dong town and is slated for large-scale resort development.
Ong Lang Beach -- Just 6km (3 3/4 miles) north of Duong Dong town, a little turnoff leads to this collection of bungalows. Go before it becomes a giant resort area (soon).
Phu Quoc Resort or Thong Loi (tel. 090/829-7413; www.phu-quoc.de) is a little budget enclave of simple, rustic bungalows starting at $10 (£5.50) (down the northern fork of the turnoff on the main road; south is Mango Bay, reviewed above). The resort is in a shaded grove high above the beach, and the central dining area is a good place to pick up a game of cards and meet some fellow travelers.
If, for whatever reason, you hanker for in-town living, Long Beach Hotel (Cua Lap, Duong To Commune; tel. 077/981-818) is a basic minihotel in the heart of Duong Dong, but considering that you can bag yourself a seaside resort for just peanuts more, there's little reason to stay here.
